How can I arrange a tour of The Oxford School?

What is the school schedule?

7:15 - 8:45am Before School Program
8:45 - 9:00am Student Drop Off
9:00 - 9:05am Opening Exercises
10:45 - 11:30am Lunch 1 and Recess
1:10 - 1:55pm Lunch 2 and Recess
3:30pm Student Pick-up
3:45 - 5:00pm After School Program

Is there school on bad weather days?

See below for protocols should the school close due to bad weather conditions.

Notification will be made at 6:45am by Head of School if school is to be CLOSED.
No students or staff members should attend the school.
Parents will be notified using the following means:
- Email communication from the Head of School.
- Teachers will post notification on Class Dojo.
If no notification of school closure is received by 6:45am the school will remain OPEN.
Parents can choose to bring students in on their own judgement of driving conditions and safety.

When is your application deadline?

TOS begins accepting applications for admission on September 15 the year prior to the student’s entry (for example, we will begin accepting applications for September 2024 entry on September 15, 2023).

TOS does not have an application deadline – we admit qualified students on a first come, first served basis until all available places in that student’s grade are full. We advise that students apply as early as possible.

How do I enroll?

We welcome you to submit your application online! We will reach out to you once your application has been submitted, to set up a visit day and to collect any required supporting documentation. At what age can children start the early years program?

Children can begin the early years program at three years of age provided they have a sibling(s) enrolled at the school.

How much does it cost to send my child to The Oxford School?

TOS is a not-for-profit private school which ensures that 100% of tuition and fundraising dollars are re-invested in our school and our students. Please see our tuition and fees page for more information.

Does The Oxford School offer tuition assistance?

Although TOS does not have a bursary program, we offer several payment plan options to assist families in meeting the financial requirement of paying tuition.

How many new students do you admit each year?

At The Oxford School we believe that small class sizes allow for maximum interaction with the teacher, an individualized approach, and an environment where each student feels known and cared for. We typically admit new students into every Grade, with an average size of 12-15 students. New students are warmly welcomed to TOS by their peers and our faculty. The Oxford School is committed to supporting new students as they adjust to life in their new school.

Is it possible to enroll in The Oxford School in any academic year?

We do accept candidates at all grade levels. Admission is dependent upon availability of space and applicants are required to follow our admissions procedures, including an observation period.

Is it possible to enroll in The Oxford School during the academic year?

Situations may arise that result in families looking to apply to school mid-year, and TOS may be able to accommodate such needs. Our ability to offer a place during the academic year will depend upon space availability, the student’s academic record, as well as other factors. The decision is at the discretion of the Admissions Director and all such students will still be required to follow our admissions procedures, including an observation period. We would be pleased to discuss this with you.

Do you do standardized testing?

At this point TOS does not subscribe to standardized testing. Periodical and ongoing assessment strategies allow teachers to evaluate the capabilities of our students in all subject areas. Remedial and progressive follow up ensures the success and advancement of our student learning success.

Do students wear uniforms?

Yes, the school uniform is intended to develop a sense of pride and unites us as a Learning Community. In making the decision to attend TOS, students and parents have made a commitment to comply with and support the school uniform policy.

Does The Oxford School have a Lunch Program?

Yes! Students enjoy healthy prepared lunches on a pre-ordered basis.

Does your child have an allergy or special dietary requirement? Please inform our staff immediately to ensure that your child’s needs are met.

Can you accommodate a student with an IEP and/or identified learning challenge?

If your child has an Individual Education Plan or has undergone a Psycho-Educational assessment in the past, we ask that you please provide us with a copy of this documentation along with the application. We will invite you to meet with the Head of School and teaching staff member to further discuss your child’s needs.

Does The Oxford School have a religious affiliation?

TOS is a secular school.

Does The Oxford School have before and after school care?

Yes! We offer child care before school, starting at 7:15 a.m., and after school until 5:00 p.m.

The cost of before-and after-school care is in addition to cost of tuition. The program emphasizes outdoor play and is a great opportunity for students to meet new friends in other Grades!

Are you a peanut free facility?

Yes TOS is a peanut free facility.

How do I provide Health and Medication information?

If your child requires a medical device such as an EpiPen in order to regulate any kind of known allergic reactions they MUST be labeled with the child’s first and last name. We will also require written/typed instructions for each device your child might have. You must also include the causes and treatments of any kind of allergies your child has with the instructions given to the school. A doctor’s note will also be required as to ensure the device is up to date and that it is still relevant for the child.

If there is any sever allergies in the school their picture and information will be posted on our school bulletin board in the kitchen and in their classroom to ensure everyone has knowledge of it.

At no point will any teachers be able to administer any kind of medication to your child, unless it is an absolute emergency. An emergency only consists of life threatening situations; such as needing to administer an EpiPen. Any kind of antibiotics, puffer, Advil/Tylenol, cold or cough medicine, etc. is not the responsibility of the school. If your child requires any type of medication during the day, it is up to the parents and or guardians to come up with a plan of how it gets administered or to leave the child at home until they are well enough to return.

If your child has been discovered to have an infectious virus such as: the stomach flu, lice, pink eye, ringworm or any other kind of contagious illness their emergency contact will be called to pick them up immediately. If your child has left the school upon throwing up they are asked to wait a full 24 hours before returning to the school since their last case. In other instances the child will be permitted to come back to school once we know the issue has been appropriately dealt with, and the child is fully recovered. This is to protect the rest of the students and staff and to ensure a healthy environment for all.
